Every day we see people and vehicles moving from one place to another. People move about for different reasons, some travel to visit loved ones, others to buy items, some others to go to school or religious centres. This is called transportation!
Transportation is the movement of people, animals and goods from one place to another.
There are three different ways people are able to transport themselves as well as items from one place to another:
By land
Road transportation is the oldest means of moving people and goods from one place to another. It is the movement of people or goods by road using foot, animals or vehicles such as cars, bicycles, trains, buses and so on.

People who move on foot on the road are called pedestrians while people who move in vehicles are called motorists.
By water
Water transportation is the means of moving people and goods on water from one place to another. Heavy goods are usually transported to far destinations using this mode of transportation.

Ships, boats, ferries, canoe, yachts and so on are used to transport people and goods through the water.
By Air
Air transportation is the fastest means of transportation. People and goods can be transported to very far distances in a very short time compared to road and water transportation.

Aeroplanes, jets, spaceships, helicopters are used to transport people and goods through the air.
