We recently had a conversation with one of our oldest tutors, Mr Adebayo, and he drew our attention to how much he has learned and earned by working with Gradely.

Let’s dive into his full story.

How did you find out about Gradely?

I found out about Gradely 18 months ago. I saw an ad on social media about a vacancy for content developers. I applied for the job, attended the virtual interview and was selected.

When you started working at Gradely, what were your tasks like?

It was a part-time job. All I had to do was develop questions according to the WAEC & British (IGCSE) curricula and I would get paid. At that time, I was a school teacher and my engagement was quite flexible. The tasks were super easy for me to handle. It also really helped that it was completely virtual. At some point, I graduated to creating exam questions like JAMB, Common entrance, etc all according to the Nigerian curriculum.

How would you say your finances were affected when you joined Gradely?

The contract basically stated that I would create content for a particular class and get paid once I was done. For example, I would create 30 questions for all topics in the 3 terms of Primary 3 class for N40k. That was the rate. It was quite lucrative for me because it wasn’t stressful.

In fact, as an experienced teacher, it was fun and easy for me. I just had to get my laptop and I would be done with a huge chunk of the work in a few hours. I usually had a 2-week deadline to deliver each classes questions, and the time was enough for me. Except for British curriculum questions. That usually took an extra week to complete.

What else did you do on Gradely that paid?

Not long after I started content development, I also started online tutoring. I was the very first online tutor on Gradely. I also began writing scripts for video lessons as well.

The online tutoring was a really fantastic experience. I initially earned about N2,000/hour, until it was stabilized to about N1,500/hour. Sometimes, I would do about 12 to 15 classes per week, making about N24,000 extra weekly, on my laptop, teaching the exact same thing I taught in the classroom at school.

Overall, I can boldly say that I’ve made way more than 1 million naira extra income working on Gradely.

If a teacher needed to make extra funds, would you recommend them from Gradely?

I would definitely recommend it to a teacher that wants to make extra money or leave traditional learning to explore online learning in the classroom. When I met Gradely, I was looking for an opportunity to add more value, make more money, and leave the conventional classroom. Gradely was an honest answer to my prayers.

What also made it super-easy to work with Gradely were the skills I had. Skills like digital literacy, flexibility, and adaptability. I had to adapt to doing classes and tutorials online, work from home, and manage my time properly. Gradely also did some very valuable training to help me fit in. They could have cost thousands of naira, but I was trained for free. Gradely was a launcher for me into the e-learning world. I honestly can’t imagine myself going back into the physical space now.

Any comment for anyone that is interested in pivoting to the online learning space as a teacher?

There are tons of opportunities for teachers apart from teaching in a conventional setting. Opportunities like scriptwriting, content development, video production, etc. Teaching is a profession that has changed and has become decentralized. Every teacher should think of how they can get better experiences, remain relevant in the profession, and also make more money.

In fact, I can now boldly say that teaching online is more lucrative than teaching in a school.
